Video presentation – Land Rover Range Rover Sport (2022): “access” range

At Land Rover, Range Rover is not just a model, it is a family of 4 members: Evoque, Velar, Range Rover and Range sport. The head of this family is the Range Rover, the fifth and new generation of which you were able to discover on Karadisiac. Today, the British manufacturer is lifting the veil on the Range Sport: a shorter, sportier yet more affordable version. The expansion of the model range, which appeared in 2005, allowed the manufacturer to enter such strategic markets as the United States. Since then, the Range Sport has become the Porsche Cayenne’s main competitor across the Atlantic.

This third generation uses the base, technology and engines of its older brother. Thus, it is based on a completely new modular platform called MLA (Modular Longitudinal Architecture). The latter, made mostly of aluminium, is capable of receiving a wide range of engines, including two rechargeable hybrid units and a 100% electric motor, which will be available from 2024.

(4.94 m) Range Sport is distinguished primarily by a more sloping roofline. Thus, the floating roof and the high waistline give the impression of connecting the back. A rear end that also receives a completely different treatment, as the Range Sport does not use the vertical lights of its big brother, but two exquisite optics connected by a black lacquered headband.

Otherwise, the Range Sport includes all the big brother’s design cues, such as advanced HD headlights at the front (capable of illuminating over 500 meters and masking 16 objects at the same time (vehicles, pedestrians, etc.), huge 23″ wheels, door handles flush or even body creases that run the length of the car.During the official presentation, Land Rover presented its model dressed in an all-new bright red color.A color in the testing phase that will be sold if the feedback is good, ”explained to us manufacturer.

With the exception of a lower driving position and some specific details, the interior is exactly the same as the regular Range, modern and luxurious.

On board, the Briton adopts an all-new Range layout. Namely, an elegant dashboard composed of digital instruments and a large 13-inch center screen in a floating position, equipped with a 5G connection and many connected services, including a personal assistant (Alexa). Passengers will travel in luxurious surroundings because the smallest elements have undergone special processing. Leather, natural wood and even ceramics are installed on the most upscale versions. Like all modern manufacturers, Land Rover emphasizes the “circular economy”. As such, the leather, carpets and fabric of the loudspeakers are made from recycled plastic materials.

The main difference from the Range Rover concerns the driving position. So Land Rover lowered the seats and raised the instrument panel a few millimeters to provide a more “sporty” driving style. We are also noting the introduction of certain interior colors such as two-tone leather upholstery in the R version. The Range Sport will be offered exclusively in the 5-seat version. In this regard, rear passengers will travel with a truly exceptional level of comfort, combining noble materials and technologies. However, legroom is a little disappointing given the close to 3m wheelbase.

Land Rover has also taken its Range Spot a step further in terms of onboard technology. Among the most high-tech equipment is an acoustic reducer that sends a reverse frequency through speakers located in the headrests to suppress parasitic noise at high speed, such as the sound of air or wheels on the road, or even a nanoparticle air purifier that filters allergens and viruses, including Covid-19.

The new platform is the brains of the car, as it is able to support electrified mechanics, provide high levels of comfort, sportier handling and increased rigidity for off-road practice, which remains the brand’s DNA.

Range Sport is a sport modification of Range Rover. It uses the best technology from its big brother, such as electronic multi-link suspension, 5-level air dampers, rear-wheel steering and all-wheel drive. In France, it will have 6 micro-hybrid diesel cylinders, a plug-in hybrid petrol and, from 2024, an electric motor.

In France, it will have 6 micro-hybrid diesel cylinders, a plug-in hybrid petrol and, from 2024, an electric motor.

Therefore, Land Rover has applied all the best ground connections currently available to guarantee the exceptional versatility of its model: electronic multi-link suspensions, Bilstein pneumatic shock absorbers with 5 adjustment levels, rear steering wheels, active electronic roll control (48 V) without forgetting all-wheel drive . All of this is managed by the Terrain Response 2 system, the same as the latest Defender, which automatically adapts traction, body height and differential lock according to the selected mode. Land Rover promises a driving experience never before achieved by any of its models.

To bring the juggernaut to life, Land Rover has opted for a wide range of engines. In France, “initial” versions are tasked with taking care of 6-cylinder diesel (D250, D300 and D350) micro-hybrids. The British can’t miss out on plug-in hybrid technology that allows them to avoid the environmental penalty, with the heart of the range version of the P440e, which combines a 3-litre six-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor to produce 440bhp. Powered by a 32.8 kWh battery, it is capable of driving almost 100 km and can even be charged with DC current up to 50 kW. The P510e version uses the same combination, but the power is increased to 510 horsepower.

At the top of the range we find the musical V8 Supercharged, very popular in the North American and Asian markets. Its power reaches 530 hp, and the torque is 750 Nm, here the hippopotamus (2585 kg) accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds! All are aggregated with an 8-speed automatic transmission and have all-wheel drive.

The third generation Range Rover will be available for delivery in France from September with a starting price of €94,100, €20,000 more than the current generation! Added to this will be an environmental penalty (for certain engines) as well as a new weight tax that applies to all versions.
