US streaming tech giant Conviva launches large-scale streaming measurement analytics in Japan

A 92% increase in streaming minutes, as reported in the State of Japan Streaming Report Q4 2021, supports the company’s decision to invest.

TOKYO – (BUSINESS WIRE) – Conviva (headquartered in Foster City, California, USA; office in Japan: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter referred to as Conviva or the Company), which provides continuous measurement analytics through real-time sessions , a server-side video streaming service, today announced the opening of its Japan office, which will serve as a sales and customer support base for the rapidly growing Japanese market. The company has also released a status report on streaming in Japan that highlights the major streaming trends in that market.

“Over the past decade, Conviva has become a pioneer in streaming measurement analytics for streaming video and is leading the development of the global market, including Japan, with 58 technology patents,” said Keith Zubchevich, CEO of Conviva. “Today we are pleased to announce the opening of a subsidiary in Japan, including sales, marketing, finance, legal and customer support. Japan is one of the world’s leading streaming markets and a strategic growth region for Conviva’s streaming metering technology. Under the leadership of Regional Manager Takeshi Torii from Japan, we hope to help the market capitalize on the growth of video streaming. »

To support the commercial launch, Conviva is releasing its first Japan streaming status report. The highlights of the Japanese market are as follows:

  • In the fourth quarter of 2021 (October to December), the overall increase in streaming minutes was +7% globally, +0.2% in the US, while Japan saw an incredible +92% jump.

  • In particular, the number of minutes aired on television increased by +110%, and the country’s total share of streaming minutes increased by 24 times compared to the United States. This increase appears to have been influenced by sales of large connected TVs in Japan.

  • Streaming quality scores have improved significantly, including a significant reduction in buffering speed and a significant improvement in image quality. In particular, the average load time is at least 30% faster than in the US, which seems to have resulted in longer play times.

Conviva’s Q4 2021 State of Japan Streaming Report includes additional analysis of the global report originally published on January 24, 2022. An additional analysis compares the United States and Japan with the rest of the world. Details can be downloaded from the official website. “As the results of the Japan Live Streaming Status Report show, total live streaming viewing time in Japan has increased significantly and this trend is expected to continue in the future,” said Conviva, Japan GKA Regional Manager Takeshi Torii. “On the other hand, more and more streaming services are launching and the competition is getting fiercer. To succeed in such an environment, companies must be able to manage streaming quality and viewing trends continuously, comprehensively, and in real time. Only this approach will accelerate the growth of their streaming business. Conviva Japan is committed to improving the quality of live streaming, maximizing the number of viewers, and promoting the development of a world-class live streaming market in Japan. I know! This is just the beginning for Conviva Japan. »
