Certainly, Microsoft is not done with acquisitions of companies with billions of dollars. After announcing a $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard by June 2023, it’s now Nuance’s turn to join the Redmond-based firm.
Nuance acquires Microsoft for $19.7 billion
The news obviously won’t have the same effect as the takeover announced earlier in the year, but Microsoft just spent at least $19.7 billion to take advantage of Nuance’s skills. By comparison, the Bethesda acquisition cost $8.1 billion and the LinkedIn acquisition cost $26.2 billion.
Chances are you’ve never heard of Nuance, but it’s a leading conversational AI and environmental mining company in industries like healthcare, financial services, retail, and telecommunications.
The acquisition of the group has already been completed, and all the organizational details seem to be determined. As such, Mark Benjamin will remain CEO of Nuance and report to Scott Guthrie, EVP of the Microsoft Cloud + AI group.
New skills for Xbox?
Players are obviously wondering if such a takeover will affect Microsoft’s Xbox division. At the moment, nothing has been announced in this direction, but it is possible that Nuance’s skills could benefit the gaming industry.
The new acquisition of the Redmond-based firm aims to help businesses achieve their business goals faster with cloud-based security solutions powered by powerful vertically optimized artificial intelligence.
“The completion of this significant and strategic acquisition combines Nuance’s conversational AI and ambient intelligence with Microsoft’s secure and reliable industrial cloud offerings.
