How is the labor market?

According to a 2018 INSEE study, in the European Union, 12% of companies with 10 to 49 employees hire IT professionals, compared to 41% of companies with 50 to 249 employees and 75% of companies with 250 employees or more.

Infrastructure maintenance is the most frequent IT task for IT professionals (only 15% of companies did not need it in 2017) and by far the most outsourced (62% of companies primarily turned to service providers).

In general, in all companies, only support functions related to office software are mainly performed by employees of the company, its parent company or subsidiaries (43% of companies, 21% not involved in these tasks). Currently, support functions require a small amount of specialized IT skills and can be performed by people for whom this is not a primary responsibility: for example, 37% of companies that do not have a single IT specialist have office software support functions performed by their own employees .

Their responsibilities include leading IT team personnel to ensure that cybersecurity technologies and features are effective, secure, and up-to-date. If the organization does not have an information security officer, the CIO can also oversee the cybersecurity staff.

Cloud Architect

These professionals design and implement cloud IT infrastructure for organizations. As part of this work, cloud architects must work closely with others to ensure services meet the needs of the organization. They are also responsible for cloud security and risk management.

IT support specialist

IT support specialists provide one-on-one technical assistance to users in the organization. People in this profession help people solve computer problems that they may encounter on a daily basis. They can also provide support for all IT or cybersecurity functions.

Database Developer

Database developers create and manage computer databases that process and store information in a secure manner. Together with others, they develop database systems that meet the needs of the organization. This may include the use of coding for system design, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

Information Security Analyst

Computer security analysts work to protect computer systems from cyber attacks by creating and implementing security strategies. Their responsibilities may include installing firewalls to protect digital data and developing disaster recovery plans in the event of data theft or major loss. They may also work with penetration testers to identify system vulnerabilities.

Network administrator

Network administrators are responsible for the operation of an organization’s computer networks. Thus, their tasks include the installation and maintenance of the organization’s networks. Their job also includes managing devices that use the network and running applications such as email.

Systems Analyst

Computer systems analysts, also known as systems architects, study the computer systems and procedures of an organization. Their responsibilities include implementing new hardware and software, and working with managers to ensure that the IT needs of the organization are met. An important part of this work is ensuring that the organization’s computer systems meet the needs of the business.


Also known as web developers, webmasters or webmasters are responsible for the overall look and feel of a website. This includes designing the user interface of the site and managing technical aspects such as writing code or integrating graphics or videos. Other responsibilities include building trial websites and updating published content. Entry-level work in this function typically requires a bachelor’s degree.
