DUBAI, 26th July, 2022 (WAM) — In line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Governor of Dubai aimed at transforming Dubai into a leading global economic center, and in line with With the launch of the Dubai Metaverse strategy by Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Government of Dubai has formed the Higher Committee on Future Technologies and the Digital Economy.

The High Committee, chaired by the Crown Prince of Dubai, aims to help shape the future of artificial intelligence (AI) by investing in the metaverse and forging partnerships to grow Dubai’s digital economy.

Commenting on the establishment of the High Committee, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed said that Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid’s visionary vision has solidified Dubai’s status as a leading global hub for innovative concepts and disruptive business and technology models by deploying cutting-edge technologies in vital sectors to improve people’s lives.

Sheikh Hamdan said Dubai is a global testing ground for technologies and future business models aimed at creating new economic opportunities, making Dubai the hub of the global digital economy.

He added: “We are working as a team to strengthen Dubai’s position as a global cradle and research laboratory for future technologies and one of the ten largest Metaverse economies in the world, in line with Dubai’s Metaverse strategy.”

The members of the Higher Committee on Future Technologies and the Digital Economy are Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Teleworking Applications, Chairman of the Dubai Digital Economy Chamber and Vice Chairman of the Committee, Omar bin Sultan Al Olama; Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director General of the Dubai Economy and Tourism Department; Dubai Digital Authority CEO Hamad Obaid Al Mansouri; Dubai Future Foundation Managing Director Khalfan Belhoul; Ahmed Bin Byat, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Dubai Chamber of the Digital Economy; Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Development Authority Malek Al Malek; Director General of DIFC Office Arif Amiri; and General Rapporteur of the Committee Maha Al Mezaina.

The Committee will develop policy and analyze trends in the digital economy and future technologies, including Metaverse, AI, Blockchain, Web3, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Internet of Things (IoT), data centers and cloud computing in Dubai. The committee will oversee the implementation of strategies related to the digital economy and technologies of the future in Dubai.

The committee will work to identify future skills needed for digital sectors and advise economic sectors on digital economy issues. The committee will also monitor the performance of the digital economy and ensure that its contribution to the Dubai economy is up to world standards.

The committee also plans to attract international companies and conferences focused on future technologies and the digital economy. In addition, he will establish strategic partnerships with organizations working in the digital economy around the world.

Sheikh Hamdan launched the Dubai Metaverse Strategy to place Dubai among the top 10 metaverse economies in the world. The strategy aims to make Dubai a global metaverse community hub and build on the success of Dubai, which has attracted over 1,000 blockchain and metaverse companies. It also contributes to Dubai’s ambition to support over 40,000 virtual jobs by 2030.
