Blockchain and Inclusion: Can New Technologies Help the LGBTQ+ Community? – Part 4

Blockchain technology has revolutionized many sectors since its inception. We often talk about his impact on the traditional financial industry and the changes he brings to the arts. But one question remains little discussed: what impact can blockchain have on inclusion? How can this revolution be put at the service of the common good and the integration of different communities? This is what we will discuss in the Blockchain and Inclusion section. In this first series, we will focus on the connection between new technologies and the LGBTQ+ community through a series of interviews with big names in the blockchain universe. Today we are going to talk about reviews. Joe Di Pasquale, Lee Jun and Mike Musante. Let’s go to !

Joe DiPasquale of BitBull Capital and StartOut:

Joe is the CEO of BitBull Capital, which runs cryptocurrency hedge funds, and co-founder of StartOut, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating business leaders by educating lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and gay people.

Technology plays a huge role in the LGBTQ+ community. Already in our formative years, many have been using technology and social platforms to find other LGBTQ+ people, even before they’ve even made their mark. exit or talk about it to others. Often people look for information on the Internet and forums first.

LGBTQ+ youth make up over 40% of homeless youth in America. Therefore, the importance of technology platforms in facilitating connectivity, whether through the Internet or even through the apps and mobile phones accessed by disadvantaged young people, cannot be overemphasized.

The impact of technology in healthcare is also very important, whether it is the emergence of HIV drugs (from those that cure to those that prevent) or the increase in knowledge transfer about specific LGBTQ+ health issues among doctors who are usually only familiar with heteronormative medicine.

With the help of blockchain, many pioneering LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs have looked for ways to support the community through trade, whether it be an LGBT token or dedicated chambers of commerce for gay people. One important thing I always hear from those working in AI and blockchain is the diversity of this sector compared to other industries. The technology and meritocratic focus of our industry is suited to open-minded, forward-thinking people.

Through NFT, artists can create unique digital artworks and own these rights. Due to its digital nature, this art form can be very specific but still enjoyed by a large number of people. I recently chatted with a friend about an international digital artist whose art he liked because it was reminiscent of what they both experienced as LGBTQ+. However, they would not necessarily make a connection if they were limited to the physical realm of art.

Technology has really helped me on my personal journey as an LGBTQ+ and will certainly continue with the new advances in health, finance, security and representation that we see coming with the most recent advances.

Li Jun from Ontology:

Li is the founder of Ontology, an independent identity, a decentralized digital identity, and a data blockchain.

Unfortunately, centralized systems and modern technology no longer provide the security needed to protect users from intruders. Every day we hear about new data breaches and new security breaches. For LGBTQ+ people living in certain countries, the leakage of personal information associated with their digital identity can be a real danger and in some cases become a matter of life or death.

People should have the right to control how their identity is in the digital realm. Blockchain-based decentralized identity protocols can give users back control over what they share online and with whom. Against the backdrop of current regulatory discussions that often criticize the anonymity offered by blockchain, it is important to note that some minorities do not have the luxury of privacy or civil liberties. This makes anonymity not only essential for them, but also one of the great benefits of blockchain technology.

Mike Musante of Decentralized Pictures:

Mike is the co-founder of Decentralized Pictures, a non-profit organization and blockchain based film making platform.

The film industry has traditionally been very insular and somewhat closed to new and innovative voices in film, art and culture. Blockchain technology has the potential to break down the silos in this industry by democratizing the selection process for talent and content, enabling greater engagement of the voices that speak through the media and films. The mission of our decentralized platform is to provide access to independent and underrepresented talent who hope to break into the film industry. This is achieved by facilitating a content selection process whereby users around the world vote for the most deserving projects.

Unfortunately, only a small percentage of today’s filmmakers are part of the LGBTQ+ community, despite the fact that there are many talented and passionate people in it. Often, these people face inherent biases that can be removed by using blockchain technology for a fair voting process.

We have come to the end of the fourth part of our series “Blockchain and Inclusion: Can New Technologies Help the LGBTQ+ Community?” More talks from actors and actresses about blockchain await you in the coming weeks, so stay tuned and see you next week!
